One of the worst side effects of having to drive your car in snowy or icy conditions is the gross film that road salt leaves behind on its paint. If you do not take care of washing it off fairly quickly, the road salt can eat away at the paint and leave chips in the exterior coat behind.

As soon as the temperatures get above freezing, start by washing the road salt off your car with water. Be sure to check all of the doors and underside of the car so that there is not any residue left. Failure to remove all of the road salt timely will corrode the paint and any exposed metal parts of your car.

Paint chips should be repaired rather quickly by a professional auto body shop. Royal Volkswagen of Bloomington can take care of this for you to protect your car's exterior in the winter.
